Lyonel Anderson’s career as an athlete and a coach span almost two decades. As a forward in high school, Anderson was awarded with many titles throughout his high school basketball career including: All State New York Basketball – recognized as one of the top 50 players in the state; All Greater Rochester Super 15 Player; and made City Catholic All-Star twice. Additionally, he led is high school team to the Final Four in New York basketball and was a two-time All Star at the Five Star Basketball Camp.
Later during his football career as a tight end at Kansas University from 2003-04, Anderson caught 43 passes for 485 yards and three touchdowns in 21 career games. Anderson signed as a free agent with the Cincinnati Bengals and was a member of the Green Bay Packers and New York Giants practice squads. He also played for the Arena Football League's Colorado Crush.
Lyonel's career in strength and conditioning began in 2008 as a graduate assistant at Kansas before a seasonal intern assignment with the Denver Broncos in 2008. Following his time in Denver, Anderson spent the 2009 season as Assistant Strength Coach for Football at Youngstown State. Anderson spent two seasons as Assistant Strength Coach at Rice University and later in the same capacity at the University of Indiana for two years. Anderson joined the University of Houston Sports Performance Department in 2014 as Associate Director of Sports Performance and was present for their bowl game win in January 2015.
His most recent two years were spent under Tom Crean at Indiana University, where they won the Big Ten Conference outright, and competed in the Sweet Sixteen in 2016.
